Welcome to the Waikato Branch website of the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association.
Our Waikato Branch clubrooms in Hamilton are located at 138 Dey Street where meetings and events are held encouraging the social aspect of our sport.
The Association was formed in July 1937 by the Co-founders Dr Geoffrey Orbell and Arthur Hamilton. We have Affiliated Branches nationwide with a National Conference held annually where our Waikato representatives can attend and vote on the direction our Association is heading.
Some of the benefits of being a club member are:
Monthly: Social Nights - Video Evenings - Organised Hunts - Indoor .22 range shoots – Outdoor .22 Range shoots - Club library of books and videos - Newsletters listing upcoming events, hunting tales, president's reports, hot topics, for sale and wanted items, and hunting tips.
Annually: Great Annual Helicopter Hunts - Waikato Branch Annual Prize Shoot usually held in February at the Tokoroa Sports Shooting Complex - Photo Competition - Measuring Night and Trophy Competitions for Antler, Horn & Tusk usually held in May - Many cups, trophies and shields to be won with trophies also available for Juniors, Ladies and Over 50's - Annual Prizegiving Dinner usually held in June.
Nationally: 4 Seasonal issues of Hunting and Wildlife magazine - Bugle newsletters - National Shooting Competitions - National Trophy Competitions for Antler Horn & Tusk - National Photo Competitions - Insurance for members up to 10 million dollars liability insurance including 1 million dollars for the Rural Fires Act - NZDA Advocate for pressing issues, able to voice our concerns in the right direction.
General: Meet like minded people - Hunter Training Courses - Discounts - you have opportunities to give something back to the sport. Under 18 family members can join at an attractive rate.
A strong Waikato Branch with healthy membership numbers can enable us to continue to promote hunting, promote the rights of responsible firearms owners for sporting purposes, promote activities and opportunities for junior members, fight against the use of aerially spread 1080 poison, improve access to hunting lands, and preserve the right to hunt for future generations.
If you would like to join our Waikato Branch, we now have centralised membership through our national office and contact can be made through our national website deerstalkers.org.nz or you may try this direct link to enquire about becoming a member: http://www.deerstalkers.org.nz/Site/Membership/default.aspx
